Health insurance in Miami-Dade: more options than you think

More people in Miami-Dade picked a Marketplace plan for 2026 than in any other county in the 30 states that use HealthCare.gov, over 1 million. Almost all of them used an agent or broker, and about 97 out of 100 qualified for a tax credit when they picked a plan.

Source: CMS, 2026 Open Enrollment Period County-Level Public Use File. Miami-Dade: 1,031,630 plan selections, the most of any county in the HealthCare.gov states; 981,197 (95%) through an agent or broker; 1,001,621 (97%) with advance premium tax credits.

Picture a delivery driver in Hialeah. After her last drop-off, she opens the mail. Her mother lives with her, and so do her two kids. The letter is her plan renewal for 2027, and the tax credit on it isn't the number she had last year. She reads it twice, then asks what a lot of Miami families ask this time of year: what do I do now?

If your tax credit changed for 2027, it's worth comparing again. Here's how tax credits work. Health insurance in Miami, FL has more doors than the renewal letter shows (more detail on our individual and family health insurance in Florida page):

  • ACA Marketplace plans (Obamacare). Plans on HealthCare.gov, where a tax credit based on your income may lower your monthly bill.
  • Private plans, including PPOs. Plans sold directly by insurance companies.
  • Family plans. One plan for the household, where it fits.
  • Self-employed options. Coverage built around income you earn on your own.

Florida also has private association plans, which pool low-risk individuals together and can lower costs. Qualifying varies, and the whole family can join. Results vary. Savings are not guaranteed.

Popular private-plan options our clients ask us to compare include Aetna, Cigna (private plans only), Blue Cross Blue Shield, and networks such as PHCS (MultiPlan) and First Health. What's open to you depends on where you live and your situation.

Who we help in Miami

Rideshare, delivery and gig workers

If you drive or deliver, your income changes week to week and there's no employer plan. We help you estimate your income for the year and update it if it changes. More on income that changes.

Hotel, restaurant, cruise and tourism workers

Tourism means tips, seasonal hours, and for a lot of people, more than one job. We compare plans that fit the whole picture.

Small business owners (1 to 100+ employees)

Small business health insurance in Miami starts with your team. We help any business, 1 to 100+ employees. Florida's small-group market is legally 1 to 50. We look at MEWAs first, then level-funded plans and PEOs, and we can help if one is the right option for your team. See small business group health insurance.

Families, including multi-generation households

Grandparents, parents and kids under one roof is normal in Miami. Who can share a Marketplace plan depends on who's on your tax return, so a parent you don't claim may need her own plan. See our family plans. We can help people turning 65 compare Medicare options, too.

People whose coverage or tax credit changed

A Medicaid change. A raise or a cut in hours. A new job. Any of these can change what you qualify for. Here's more on Medicaid and income changes.

Miami hospitals and doctors: check the network first

Miami-Dade's big health employers include the University of Miami, with about 23,700 employees (its health system is UHealth), and Jackson Health System, governed by the Public Health Trust on behalf of Miami-Dade County, with about 14,700 (Miami-Dade County FY2025 financial report, p. 264). Baptist Health South Florida also has more than 30,000 employees across South Florida.

Networks can change every year, so we check your doctors and hospitals with you before you apply. Here's how to check if your doctor is in-network.

The red flag we watch for: a low monthly price on a plan that doesn't include the doctor your family already sees. The price is the price, but a plan has to work for you.

How it works: three simple steps

Book a call, we compare your options, we apply together.

  1. Book a call. Start with the quote form. Then you'll talk with someone on our team: Darius, Fred, Matthew, Chris or Alex. Meet our team.
  2. We compare your options. Your doctors, your prescriptions, your budget, your tax credit, side by side.
  3. We apply together. You choose. We help with the application.

Applications are often approved within 24 hours, and coverage can start as soon as the 1st of the month. On Marketplace plans, that's during open enrollment or a qualifying special enrollment period. That timing isn't promised.

When you can sign up

Florida uses HealthCare.gov. Open enrollment for 2027 runs Nov 1, 2026 to Jan 15, 2027. Enroll by Dec 15 for coverage that starts Jan 1, or Dec 16 to Jan 15 for coverage that starts Feb 1. See 2027 open enrollment.

Outside that window, a life change can open a special enrollment period, and private options exist outside open enrollment too. Small-group plans can start any month. Here's when coverage starts.

Miami health insurance FAQ

Can you help me with health insurance in Miami if your office is in Melbourne?

Yes. We work by phone or Zoom video, so you don't need to come in. Darius is licensed in all 50 states, and our team helps people across the state. There's no cost to talk to us and no broker fees.

Can I get help in Spanish?

Yes. Alex on our team speaks Spanish. Ask for him when you request your quote, and we'll help by phone or Zoom video. This page is in English, but your call doesn't have to be. There's no cost to talk to us.

Why do so many people in Miami-Dade use the Health Insurance Marketplace?

Miami-Dade had more 2026 Marketplace plan selections than any other county in the HealthCare.gov states, over 1 million, according to CMS. Most of those people qualified for a tax credit when they picked a plan. A tax credit is money that lowers your monthly premium, and it's based on your expected income. Here's how tax credits work.

Will a plan let me see doctors at Jackson, Baptist Health or UHealth?

It depends on the plan's network. Each plan has its own network, and networks can change every year. Before you apply, we check your doctors and hospitals with you, so you know what you're choosing.

I drive for rideshare or deliver food in Miami-Dade. How do I estimate my income for a plan?

The Marketplace asks for your expected net self-employment income for the year: what you earn minus your business costs, sometimes called profit. Last year's numbers are a good starting point. Then adjust for changes you expect. If your income changes during the year, update it. More on income that changes.

Do you help people in Hialeah, Doral, Kendall, Homestead and Miami Beach?

Yes. We help people anywhere in Miami-Dade, plus Broward and the rest of Florida, by phone or Zoom video. The plans you can get depend on the county you live in, so we start with your home address.

My tax credit changed for 2027. Should I compare plans again?

It's a good time to compare. Your plan, your price and your tax credit can change each year. We can review your options with you at no cost. See 2027 open enrollment for this year's dates and rules.

I own a small shop or restaurant in Miami. Can I offer health insurance to my team?

Often, yes. We look at MEWAs first, then level-funded plans and PEOs, and we can help if one is the right option for your team. Group plans can start any month, and who is eligible depends on the plan.
