Health insurance in Orlando: you have more options than you think

Picture a server who works the dinner rush at a hotel restaurant off International Drive. In March, the dining room is packed and her hours are full. In September, the crowds thin out and so do her shifts. Every fall she asks two questions. Do I still qualify for the plan at work? Can I afford my share?

A lot of people in Orlando only know the plan at work, or one plan they saw on HealthCare.gov. Here's what health insurance in Orlando, Florida can look like (more detail on our individual and family health insurance in Florida page):

  • ACA Marketplace plans (Obamacare). Plans on HealthCare.gov, where you may get a tax credit based on your income. Here's how Marketplace tax credits work.
  • Private plans, including PPOs. Plans sold directly by insurance companies.
  • Plans for families. One plan for the whole household, where it fits.
  • Options for the self-employed. Plans built around income that comes from you, not a boss.

Guess what? In Orange County, about 400,000 people picked a Marketplace plan for 2026, and almost 9 in 10 used an agent or broker to do it.

Source: CMS, 2026 Open Enrollment Period County-Level Public Use File, released Mar 27, 2026. Orange County: 399,974 plan selections, 356,120 through an agent or broker.

Florida also has private association plans, which pool low-risk individuals together and can lower costs. Qualifying varies, and the whole family can join. Results vary. Savings are not guaranteed.

Popular private-plan options our clients ask us to compare include Aetna, Cigna and Blue Cross Blue Shield, plus networks such as PHCS (MultiPlan) and First Health. What's open to you depends on your address and your situation.

Who we help in Orlando

Orlando runs on hospitality. Walt Disney World Resort accounts for about 80,000 local jobs and Universal Orlando Resort about 32,000, and SeaWorld, Hilton Grand Vacations, Westgate and Rosen are big employers too (Orlando Economic Partnership). The area welcomed a record 76.7 million visitors in 2025, according to Visit Orlando.

Theme park, hotel and restaurant workers

Plenty of hospitality employers offer coverage, but not every worker qualifies, and not every worker can afford the share that comes out of the check. We lay the job plan next to your other options, so you see the real choice.

Gig, rideshare and delivery drivers

Good month, slow month, good month. Marketplace help is based on your estimate for the whole year. We help you build that estimate and update it if things change. More on income that changes month to month.

Self-employed and 1099 workers

Orlando has a lot of contractors, event and production crews, and real estate agents. We compare the self-employed options with you.

Small businesses (1 to 100+ employees)

Small business health insurance in Orlando starts with your team. We help any business, 1 to 100+ employees. Florida's small-group market is legally 1 to 50. We look at MEWAs first, then level-funded plans and PEOs, and we can help if one is the right option for your team. Small-group plans can start any month. See small business group health insurance.

Families

One plan for the whole household can make life simpler, when it fits. See our family plans. We also help people turning 65 compare Medicare options.

Orlando-area hospitals and doctors: check the network first

The red flag we watch for: someone picks a plan on price, then learns their doctor isn't in it.

The Orlando area's big health systems include AdventHealth, with about 40,000 local employees, and Orlando Health, with about 30,600. Nemours Children's Hospital also has a large local campus (Orlando Economic Partnership, updated October 2026).

Every plan has its own network. Before you pick one, we look up your doctors and hospitals in its directory with you. Here's how to check if your doctor is in-network.

The questions we ask before anyone signs:

  1. Which doctors do you want to keep?
  2. Which hospital would you go to?
  3. Which prescriptions do you take?

The price is the price. What you're getting for it is the part worth checking.

How it works: three simple steps

Book a call, we compare your options, we apply together.

  1. Book a call. Start with the quote form. Then you'll talk with someone on our team: Darius, Fred, Matthew, Chris or Alex. Meet our team.
  2. We compare your options. Your doctors, your prescriptions, your budget, side by side.
  3. We apply together. You choose. We help with the application.

Applications are often approved within 24 hours, and coverage can start as soon as the 1st of the month. On Marketplace plans, that's during open enrollment or a qualifying special enrollment period. That timing isn't promised.

When you can sign up

Florida uses HealthCare.gov. Open enrollment for 2027 runs Nov 1, 2026 to Jan 15, 2027. Enroll by Dec 15 for coverage that starts Jan 1, or Dec 16 to Jan 15 for coverage that starts Feb 1. See the 2027 open enrollment dates.

Missed the window? A life change, like losing job coverage or moving, may open a special enrollment period, and private options exist outside open enrollment too. Here's when your coverage starts.

Orlando health insurance FAQ

Can you help with my health insurance if I live in Orlando and your office is in Melbourne?

Yes. We work by phone or Zoom video. Darius is licensed in all 50 states, and our team helps people across Florida. There's no cost to talk to us.

My Orlando hotel or theme park job doesn't offer coverage I can afford. What are my options?

It depends on what the IRS counts as affordable. For 2027, if your share for employee-only coverage costs more than 10.22% of your household income, you may get a Marketplace tax credit. If it costs less, you can still buy a Marketplace plan, but without the credit. Private plans sold outside the Marketplace are another option, and Florida also has private association plans; qualifying varies. We can compare them with you.

Will a plan let me see doctors at AdventHealth or Orlando Health?

It depends on the plan's network. Each plan has its own network, and networks can change every year. Before you apply, we look up your doctors and hospitals in the plan's directory with you.

I drive for rideshare or deliver food around Orlando. Can I get health insurance?

Yes. You can apply as an individual. On the Marketplace, help with the price is based on your estimate of what you'll earn for the whole year. We help you build that estimate, and you can update it if your income changes during the year.

Do you help people in Kissimmee, Winter Park, Sanford and the rest of Central Florida?

Yes. We help people by phone or Zoom video across Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Lake counties, from Lake Nona to Sanford, and the rest of Florida. Plans and prices depend on the county you live in, so we start with your address.

Is health insurance in Orlando priced differently than in Brevard County?

It can be. Plans and prices are set by county, so the same plan can cost a different amount in Orange County than in Brevard. Your price also depends on your age, your household and your income. We compare what's offered at your address.

My Orlando business adds seasonal staff during busy months. Can we still offer a group plan?

Often, yes. Who is eligible, for example by hours worked, depends on the plan. We look at MEWAs first, then level-funded plans and PEOs, and we can help if one is the right option for your team. Group plans can start any month.
