You have more options than NY State of Health

Most New Yorkers think NY State of Health is the only place to get coverage. It isn't.

Think about a freelancer who just left a salaried job. She opens the state exchange, scrolls what's there, and figures that list is everything New York has to offer. She picks something, pays more than she expected, still isn't sure what it covers, and never hears there were other doors.

The exchange is one door, not the only one. In New York there are three routes:

  1. NY State of Health, the state's exchange.
  2. Plans you buy directly from insurers, outside the exchange.
  3. Private group plans for business owners who have an EIN.

The exchange isn't the problem. Not knowing what else is out there is. A price you can live with and coverage you can count on aren't always a trade-off.

I help with all three, including NY State of Health enrollment and subsidies, and I'll tell you plainly which one fits you. Here's how it works: fill out the quote form or schedule a call, we compare your options, and you fill out a quick application.

We understand how overwhelming insurance options can be and we're here to help. I'm licensed in New York, based in Melbourne, Florida, working with New Yorkers by phone and video. My team and I bring over 10 years of combined experience. We've helped over 450 clients save an average of $350 a month. Results vary; savings depend on your situation.

Plans you can buy directly from insurers

New York insurers sell individual and family plans directly, outside the exchange. They follow the same New York rules, and the state's Department of Financial Services (DFS) reviews the filings.

For 2027, the individual plans filed with DFS are HMO and EPO plans. Both work through a set network of doctors and hospitals. I check your doctors and hospitals against each network before you choose.

Premium tax credits aren't available on plans bought outside the exchange. If you qualify for one, an exchange plan may fit you better, and I can help with that too.

Private group plans for business owners

If you run your own business, even with no employees, there may be another door. Business owners with an EIN may qualify for private group plans approved for sale in New York, even as a group of one. Private association plans let business owners join a larger group, which spreads risk and can lower costs for everyone. Darius will check what fits. Results vary.

An EIN is the tax ID number the IRS gives a business. See options for business owners.

Same price regardless of age or health

In New York, a plan's premium doesn't change based on your age, sex, health status, tobacco use, or occupation. That's called community rating, and it means our conversation is about which plan fits you, not your medical history.

Coverage for your whole family

New York prices family coverage by coverage tier, not by each person's age.

When you compare family plans, look at the total yearly cost: the premium, plus the deductible (what you pay before the plan starts sharing costs), plus the out-of-pocket maximum (the most you'd pay for covered care in a year).
